SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING WEEK OFFERS EVERY GIRL THE CHANCE TO ENGAGE WITH THE SCIENTIFIC CHALLENGES OF OUR AGE

Girls at Malvern St James will be celebrating Science and Engineering Week

7th - 16th March) with an exciting and stimulating programme, to ensure that girls of all ages are fully engaged with the scientific opportunities and challenges of our age.

Highlights include, on Monday, a team of 6 Year 11 girls will visit The Blue Fusion Competition held by IBM in Winchester. On Tuesday evening Dr Elizabeth Parvin from the Open University will be speaking to girls and parents on the latest developments in the use of Ultrasound in Medicine

On Wednesday morning 80 pupils from local primary schools will visit Malvern St James, and participate in activities linked to the Antarctic in celebration of 2007-8 International Polar Year.

The week will end with an Upper 6th Biology trip to Bristol Zoo.

Headmistress Rosalind Hayes said: " An active interest in science is encouraged at all levels in our School. Even if science is not to be their career path, it is crucial that they receive a good understanding and appreciate the importance of science and technology in our society’’.

National Science Week is organised by the British Association for the Advancement of Science to celebrate science, engineering and technology. There will be over 3000 events held nationwide.
