BRILLIANT YOUNG MUSICIAN RETURNS TO HIS ROOTS
A rare treat is promised to music lovers in Worcestershire, when one of the region’s most talented sons performs a programme of English Music in his home town for the first time ever.
Allan Clayton was a chorister at Worcester Cathedral, under Donald Hunt, before going up to St. John’s College Cambridge on a choral scholarship. During his post graduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music he was awarded an impressive range of prestigious scholarships and awards, including the Elton John Scholarship and the Queen’s Commendation for Excellence 2007.
The tenor, one of the most acclaimed of his generation, appeared at Cardiff’s Millennium stadium for the FA Cup Final, alongside Catherine Jenkins and Hayley Westonra and will be performing the title role in Britten’s opera Albert Herring, at Glyndebourne next summer.
Allan is now one of BBC Radio 3’s New Generation Artists and is tipped to be one of the great tenors. He travels the world extensively and is based in London.
He said:” I am delighted; this will be my debut performance in my home town and I was thrilled to be asked by Malvern St James. “
Lynne Lindner, Director of Music at Malvern St James who secured the performance said: This is a rare treat for local music lovers and is sure to be a sellout. The programme will include Britten, Holst and Bridge.”
