The Middle School Scholarship Examinations are held at Malvern St James at the end of January.
The girls who achieve the highest results in the Malvern St James Entrance Examinations will be invited to take the Academic Scholarship Examination. We also offer Scholarships in Art, Music and Sports.
Academic
The Academic Scholarship Examination will consist of:
• Extended Mathematics Paper (1 hour)
• Extended English Paper (1 hour)
• Panel Interview
Art
Candidates are required to have performed well in the Malvern St James Entrance Examinations, to provide a letter of recommendation from the Art Department of their current school and bring with them a portfolio or range of work for discussion.
The successful applicants will be expected to pursue Art to at least GCSE level.
The Art Scholarship Examination will consist of:
• Observational Drawing Examination (1.5 hours)
• Panel Interview
Music
Candidates are required to have performed well in the Malvern St James Entrance Examinations. Girls must demonstrate the ability to sing/play more than one instrument at Associated Board Grade 4 or above (Year 7) and Grade 5 or above (Year 9). The successful applicants will be expected to pursue Music to at least GCSE level, to participate in a range of musical extra-curricular activities and show a sense of leadership.
The Music Scholarship Examination will consist of:
• A rehearsal with accompanist (where appropriate)
• Audition including scales etc at the candidate’s level, pieces - two on first instrument and one on second Instrument, sight reading on first study and aural tests
• Panel Interview
Sports
Candidates are required to have performed well in the Malvern St James Entrance Examinations and must demonstrate a high standard in one or more areas of Physical Education (County representation, for example) with obvious potential in others. The successful applicants will be expected to take Physical Education to at least GCSE level.
The Sport Scholarship Examination will consist of:
• Participation in a circuit of activities
• Participation in games and/or activities
• Panel Interview
