A Scholarship is worth up to a maximum of 40% of current annual fees and an Exhibition is worth up to a maximum of 20% of the current fees.
All Scholarships and Exhibitions are tenable for as long as the girl remains at the School, provided that her progress and conduct are satisfactory.
Scholarships will take place at Malvern St James in November.
Academic Scholarship
Candidates are required to:
• Take two written papers in subjects the student intends to study at advanced level
• General Essay Paper (1 hr)
• Panel Interview
Music Scholarship
Successful candidates will be expected to make a positive contribution to the musical life of the school, including participation in concerts and musical events. Music Scholars will normally be expected to take Advanced Level Music, but in some cases this may be waived.
A candidate must offer two instruments and have reached Associated Board Grade 6 in her first study and preferably Grade 5 in her second study (either of which may be voice). There are no set pieces; candidates
are free to perform pieces of their own choice.
Those with an interest in composition are also encouraged to present a folio of original compositions and/or arrangements.
Candidates are required to:
• Play: (First Study) Two pieces of at least Grade VI standard and sight reading
• Play: (Second Study) One piece
• Written paper. Listening, theory and general musical knowledge (1 hour). Composing: Three ideas for different types of pieces will be given, for Candidates to select one as the basis of a composition or arrangement. Candidates will have access to a piano or a computer to assist them with the task (1 hour).

Art Scholarship
Art Scholars are expected to take Advanced Level Art (2 year course) and to participate within Art and to contribute to Art as part of their extra-curricular programme at school.
Candidates are required to:
• Practical examination - observational drawing
• Present a portfolio of their work

Drama Scholarship
Drama Scholars are expected to take Advanced Level Drama (2-year course), and would normally have gained GCSE drama. Scholars are also expected to take an active interest in Drama productions. Candidates will be asked to prepare two monologues from scripted plays lasting approximately two minutes each.
The students will also be given a short improvisation to perform on the day with some preparation time.
Candidates for a Scholarship in Drama are required to:
• Sit a written paper based on the broader aspects of drama
• Demonstrate their practical ability in a performance situation
• Panel Interview
Sport Scholarship
Sports Scholars are expected to participate in their specialist areas at a competitive level, to take an active role in sporting activities at the school and demonstrate good leadership skills.
Candidates are required to:
• Demonstrate, in a practical test, a level of excellence in at least one of the following areas: Hockey, Lacrosse, Tennis, Athletics, Swimming and a natural aptitude in other areas
• Sit a written paper on the broader aspects of Physical Education
• Panel Interview
