The Gambia Expedition 2009

On March 27th 2009, a group of 20 girls from Years 12 and 13 will set off for The Gambia on a life-changing expedition. Over past years, more than £35,000 has been raised to help fund numerous educational and relief projects. These include the funding for two classroom blocks, a multi-purpose assembly hall, a kitchen block, re-roofing existing classrooms, banana plantations, and medical supplies.

During their stay, the girls will plan and teach lessons at Sanchaba Nursery School, paint classrooms, help in the Mother Teresa Clinic and travel to the existing projects to monitor and assess what needs to be done in the future.

Our most exciting project next year will be to fund a brand new Nursery School.  To help raise money for this wonderful building we held a fashion show and cabaret evening on Saturday 4th October.  This fabulous evening was organised by the girls and raised an impressive £6600.  Mrs Joan Newby, who will accompany the group to the Gambia, was delighted with the event and said “the girls were fantastic and we would like to thank everyone who was so generous with their support and helped us to achieve the very important goal of being able to build the Nursery School in the Gambia”.

The girls are going to be extremely busy between now and March raising money for all of the projects. If you can help in any way, no matter how small, we would be extremely grateful.

Please contact Mrs Joan Newby  or Mrs Liz Prophet if you would like to make a donation.
